Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Abington Falls to Nationally Ranked No.1 Messiah

Mechanicsburg, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's soccer team dropped a non-conference contest at nationally ranked No. 1 Messiah University by the score of 5-0 on Tuesday night at Shoemaker Field.  It marked the first time Abington has faced a nationally ranked opponent in the team's NCAA Division III era.

How It Happened

* Messiah scored two goals in the third minute of the game and had a 3-0 lead before the 10-minute mark.  Addi Martin opened the scoring two-plus minute into the game and less than :30 seconds later, Hannah Adair connected on a score to make it 2-0.  Martin added her second goal in the 10th minute to increase the Falcons' lead to 3-0. 
 
* Messiah tacked on another first half goal in the 13th minute by Alayna Williams to make the score 4-0.  That's how things would stay heading into the half.
 
* The Falcons tacked on another goal to open the second half to cap the scoring in the game.  Hannah Lashley scored an unassisted goal in the 50th minute.
 
* The Messiah defense held Abington to zero shots in the game.  It's the first time the Nittany Lions were held without a shot in a game since Sept. 11, 2021 against SUNY Geneseo.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the first-ever meeting between Abington and Messiah.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 4 as the Nittany Lions host Cairn University in a United East Conference contest.  Game time is set for 3 p.m. at Memorial Field.
