Abington Defeats Mounties on Senior Day

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's soccer team defeated Mount Aloysius College, 2-0, in a non-conference contest on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Field on Senior Day.  Prior to the game, the Nittany Lions recognized seniors, Brendan Werner, Achillies Triantafyllos, Harry Angelis, Timothy Kane, Jayden Barragan, Ryan Lawler, Arber Canole, and JJ Fragoso who were competing in their final home regular season game at Memorial Field.

How It Happened

* Abington scored a goal in each half, and it turned out to be more than enough to get by the Mounties.  Freshman Aramis Shire scored the game's first goal in the 29th minute that turned out to be the game-winning score; the first of his career.
 
* The Nittany Lions doubled their lead in the 63rd minute with an insurance goal.  Junior Hugh Nungessor tallied his team-leading fifth goal of the season to make the score 2-0.  Sophomore Rael Halim was credited with the assist on the play; his first of the season.
 
* The Abington defense held the Mounties to just two shots in the game with both coming in the first half.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Werner made two saves in net for the Nittany Lions as he totaled with sixth shutout of the season and the 18th of his career.  He also picked up his 19th career victory which is tied for second with former standout Matt Sheldon.  Werner now only trails Esteban Leon for most victories by a goalie.  Leon won 20 games during his two-year career (2018-19).
 
* Junior Laurence Narcisi recorded a game-high four shots with one on-goal.  Abington finished the game with 12 shots, including six on-target.

Today marked the first-ever meeting between Abington and Mount Aloysius.

Abington returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 21 as the Nittany Lions host Cairn University in the team's final home regular season contest.  Game time is set for 1 p.m. at Memorial Field.
