Abington Falls to Brandywine in United East Match

Media, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team dropped a United East Conference (UEC) match on the road against Penn State Brandywine by the score of 3-0 in a match that could have gone either way on Saturday afternoon at Brandywine Commons Gym.

How It Happened
 
* Abington came within three points of the lead late in the first set after a block assist by juniors Kayla Mason and Brynn Atkins made the score 20-17.  Brandywine responded by scoring five of the next seven points to take the set, 25-19.  The set featured four different lead changes and eight ties.
 
* In the second set Abington broke an 8-8 tie with a huge 8-0 run to lead 16-8 in the set.  Atkins totaled three total blocks during the run, including two block assists and one solo. Later in the set, Abington held a 20-14 lead but Brandywine went on a 7-0 run to lead 21-20.  After Abington tied the set at 21-21, Brandywine followed by scoring four of the next five points to take the set, 25-22.
 
* Brandywine led the third set by as many as seven points after a kill from Emmalin Molinaro made the score 17-10.  Abington rallied and went on an 8-2 run to come within one point of the lead at 19-18.  However, that would be as close as Abington would get of the lead as Brandywine went on to a 25-21 victory to clinch the match.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Atkins finished with a season-high six blocks on defense with four block assists and two solo blocks.  She now has 60 solo blocks in her career trailing Andia Anderson for most all-time by four.  Anderson totaled 64 solo blocks from 2015-18.  Atkins is already the program leader in total blocks (156) and block assists (96).  She also tied her season-high eight kills.
 
* Junior Zayna Jamaladdin finished with seven kills, while sophomore Ellie Van Otten added six kills.

* Sophomore Fabiola Medina led the team with 16 digs and also had three aces.
 
* Freshman Mari Banjoff totaled a season-high 20 assists and seven digs.
 
* Senior Morgan Schaefer finished with eight digs.

* For Brandywine, Molinaro totaled a match-high 10 kills, while Shayla Howell finished with a match-high 27 assists to go along with a team-high nine digs.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the sixth meeting between Abington and Brandywine since the start of the 2011 season.  Abington is now 4-2 versus Brandywine in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 30 as the Nittany Lions host Kean University in a non-conference contest.  Match time is set for 7 p.m. at the Abington Athletic Building.
