Abington Cruises Past Falcons on Senior Day

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team picked up a quick 3-0 victory over Cedar Crest College in United East Conference (UEC) action on Saturday afternoon at the Abington Athletic Building.  Prior to the match, the Nittany Lions recognized seniors Alyssa Flickinger, Maddie Gajewski, Isabella Koch and Morgan Schaefer in part of Senior Day festivities.

How It Happened
 
* Abington trailed early in the opening set, 4-3, but a 9-1 run changed the momentum as the Nittany Lions took a 12-5 advantage.  Abington went on to lead by double-digits at 16-6 before wrapping up the set, 25-16.
 
* The Nittany Lions took the second set by the same 25-16 score.  Trailing 14-13, Abington scored 12 of the final 14 points in the set to take a 2-0 lead in the match. Junior Zayna Jamaladdin recorded four kills in the final stretch while freshman Maya Giles totaled a pair of aces.
 
* In the third set, Abington trailed majority of the set and had an 18-14 deficit late.  However, a 4-1 run by the Nittany Lions cut the lead down to 19-18.  Abington took advantage of two attack errors by the Falcons and had kills from Giles and sophomore Ellie Van Otten.  Later in the set the Falcons led 23-21 and were on pace to force a fourth set, however the Nittany Lions scored the final four points of the set, including a kill by Jamaladdin to seal the set and match, 25-23.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Jamaladdin finished the match with a high 14 kills while recording a .316 attack percentage after committing just two errors on 38 total attacks.
 
* Sophomore Fabiola Medina, last week's United East Defensive Player of the Week, totaled a match-high 17 digs.  Medina also had five assists and one ace.
 
* Van Otten totaled five kills and nine digs, while freshman Naomi Seymour added three kills and six digs. Seymour also had two solo blocks and one block assist.
 
* Junior Ryenn Mamrosch finished with 16 assists and seven digs.
 
* For Cedar Crest, Ellise Everett led the team with 11 kills, while Tianlly Davila totaled 24 assists and eight digs.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the fifth meeting between Abington and Cedar Crest since the start of the 2011 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 2-3 versus the Falcons in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 8 as the Nittany Lions travel to face St. Mary's College (Md.) in a United East contest.  Match time is set for 7 p.m.
