Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Abington Tames Wildcats, 2-0

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's soccer team won for the fourth time in its last five games after defeating visiting Penn College, 2-0, in United East Conference (UEC) action on Thursday afternoon at Memorial Field.  The Nittany Lions outscored their opponents 22-0 in the four victories.

How It Happened
 
* After a scoreless first half, Abington struck early in the second half when sophomore Mohamed Konneh connected on his third goal of the season to give the Nittany Lions a 1-0 lead.  Konneh's goal, scored in the 52nd minute, was assisted by sophomore Frankie Rafferty.
 
* Later in the half, the Nittany Lions added an insurance goal after sophomore Temur Temirov intercepted a pass at mid-field that led to a break-away opportunity.  Temirov beat Penn College's Justin Crismale one-one-one after Crismale came out to challenge Temirov.  Temirov floated a shot over Crismale for the easy score in the 76th minute.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Abington outshot Penn College, 15-5, as the Nittany Lions fired off 10 shots in the second half. Abington also held a slight edge on corners at 5-2.
 
* Konneh's second half goal marked his third score in his last two games. 
 
* Rafferty increased his team lead in assists to five on the season.  All five of his assists have come within the last five games.
 
* Senior Brendan Werner had another clean slate in net as he made three saves and in the process lowered his goals against average on the year to 1.33.  Werner also recorded his fourth shutout of the season and the 16th of his career.

Abington has won four of its last five games and in those four victories have outscored its opponents 22-0.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 12th meeting between Abington and Penn College since the start of the 2014 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 10-0-2 versus the Wildcats in the all-time series.

Abington returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 11 as the Nittany Lions host Penn State Berks in a United East contest.  Game time is set for 1 p.m.
