Abington Falls to Washington College

Chestertown, Md. – The Penn State Abington women's basketball dropped a non-conference contest at Washington College by the score of 68-57 on Tuesday night at Penny J. Fall Gymnasium.

How It Happened
 
* Washington College led 15-14 entering the second quarter and used an 8-0 to open the frame to lead 23-14.  The Shorewomen went on to take a 38-23 advantage into halftime.
 
* In the third quarter, Washington maintained its double-digit lead and increased its margin to as many as 25 after an Abby Meredith jumper made the score 54-29 at the 2:44 mark.
 
* Abington chipped away at the deficit in the fourth quarter using a 25-12 run to come within 12 points of the lead.  Sophomore Tarianda Washington scored a layup basket to make the score 66-54 with just over three minutes to play.
 
* Both teams remained scoreless over the next eight combined possessions of the game until the Shorewomen's Maggie Lawrence scored to end the drought at 1:41.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Sophomore Xenia Gillis scored a game-high 22 points setting a new season-high in the process.  She shot 9-of-14 from the field and also recorded a season-high 11 rebounds to pick up her first double-double of the season.
 
* Washington added a career-high 16 points (6-12 FG) to go along with six rebounds and two steals.
 
* Senior Naila Newman filled the box score with a season-high eight steals and tied her career-high with eight assists.  She also grabbed four boards and scored three points.
 
* Junior Amina Reid tallied a season-high 14 points off the bench to go along with four steals on defense.
 
* For the Shorewomen, Taylor Shane scored 22 points off the bench, while Abby Meredith added 19 points and six steals.  Emma Robinson grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked just the second meeting between Abington and Washington College.  The Shorewomen won last year's matchup in Abington. 
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Thursday, Nov. 13 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Centenary University in a non-conference contest.  Game time is set for 6 p.m.
