Abington Downs Bison, 78-55

Washington, D.C. – The Penn State Abington women's basketball team faced United East Conference (UEC) rival Gallaudet University in a non-conference contest on Saturday afternoon at the Gallaudet Field House.  Abington defeated the Bison by the score of 78-55 as the Nittany Lions even their record to 2-2 on the year.

How It Happened
 
* Abington trailed momentarily in the opening quarter when Gallaudet's Natalie Greene scored on the team's first two possessions to give the Bison a 5-0 lead.  Abington grabbed the lead at the 6:28 mark of the quarter after junior Amina Reid scored a layup to make the score 6-5.
 
* The Nittany Lions never relinquished the lead back to the Bison despite the score being a one possession game at 21-18 in the final minute of the first quarter.  Junior Layla Reid converted a pair of free throws, while junior Amirah Hackney knocked down a three as Abington closed out the quarter on a mini 5-0 run to lead, 26-18, entering the second frame.
 
* In the second quarter the Nittany Lions swelled the lead to double-figures and led by as many as 16 points heading into the final minute of the half.  Layla Reid scored a bucket to make the score 45-29 before the Bison scored five quick points before the half to cut the lead to 45-35.
 
* Abington put the game away in the third quarter by outscoring the Bison, 19-6.  It marked the second time this week the Nittany Lions held an opponent to single digits in a quarter.  Abington limited Centenary University to just four points in the second quarter of the team's victory against the Cyclones.
 
* The Nittany Lions increased their lead to as many as 23 points on the final play of the third quarter when senior Naila Newman scored a layup basket.  Newman's scored made it a 64-41 games.
 
* In the fourth quarter Abington held a 29-point advantage twice with the latter coming at the 2:55 mark when sophomore Hailey Revak knocked down a three to make the score 78-49.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Hackney recorded her first double-double of the season as she led the team with 22 points and 10 rebounds.  She also totaled five assists and three steals.  Her 22 points marked her third 20-plus point performance this season. 
 
* Naila Newman also scored in double-figures as she totaled 11 points to go along with four rebounds and three assists.
 
* Layla Reid totaled 13 points off the bench as she converted 7-of-10 from the free throw line.
 
* Amina Reid finished the game with eight points and a team-high six assists, while senior Nia Newman added eight points, five rebounds and three steals.
 
* For Gallaudet, Mackenzie Schirg and Greene each scored 15 points, while Seanna Baird added 11 points.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 30th meeting between Abington and Gallaudet since the start of the 2011-12 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 10-20 versus the Bison in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 19 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Salisbury University in a non-conference contest.  Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
