Abington Falls to Washington & Jefferson

Chester, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's basketball team concluded the Widener University Tip-Off for Autism Awareness Classic on Saturday afternoon against Washington & Jefferson College at the Schwartz Center.  The Nittany Lions fell to the Presidents by the score of 79-63.
 
Senior JoJo Kelly was named to the All-Classic Team at the conclusion of the event.  Kelly averaged 14.5 points per game to go along with 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.

How It Happened
 
* The second half turned out to be the difference in the game.  The Presidents opened the half on a 13-1 run to grab the game's first double-digit lead at 48-36.  Cameron Rowell split a pair of free throws at the 14:30 mark to cap the run.
 
* Abington cut the deficit down to single digits twice over the next minute with the latter coming after a Tyler Meinel layup basket.  Meinel's score made it a 50-41 game with 13:28 to play. 
 
* The Presidents followed with another large run using a 17-6 surge to increase their lead to 20 points at 67-47 with less than eight minutes showing on the clock.  The run essentially propelled Washington & Jefferson to the double-digit victory.
 
* In the first half, the lead switched hands 13 times and featured eight ties with neither team holding a lead larger than a possession.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Kelly finished with a team-high 12 points to go along with four rebounds and five assists.  He is now only two points shy of 1,000 for his career.  Kelly will enter his next game with 998 career points.
 
* Meinel also scored in double-figures as he finished with 10 points and four boards.
 
* Junior K'Mari Smith scored 11 points off the bench while also grabbing five boards.
 
* Junior Joshua Hunter finished with eight points, while junior Tamir Powell added seven points and a team-high seven rebounds.
 
* For Washington & Jefferson, Nathan Plotner scored a game-high 20 points, while Alex Acosta recorded a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Today marked the first-ever meeting between Abington and Washington & Jefferson.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 18 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Rutgers University-Camden in a non-conference contest. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
