Kelly Reaches 1,000 Career Points Against Scarlet Raptors

Camden, N.J. – Senior JoJo Kelly recorded his 1,000th career point as the Penn State Abington men's basketball team traveled to face Rutgers University-Camden in a non-conference contest on Tuesday night at the Rutgers-Camden Athletic & Fitness Center.  The Scarlet Raptors defeated the Nittany Lions by the score of 72-52.

How It Happened
 
* Rutgers-Camden led from beginning to end after opening the game on an 8-0 run.  The Scarlet Raptors led by as many as 15 points in the opening half on two occasions.  Rutgers-Camden led 21-6 with less than eight minutes to play in the opening half when Caleb Edwards scored a layup basket.
 
* Abington cut the lead down to single digits twice in the final minutes before halftime.  Kelly hit a jumper to make the score 25-17 but on the ensuing possession Gardy Etienne gave Rutgers-Camden a 10-point lead.  The Nittany Lions once again cut the lead to eight when junior K'Mari Smith scored a layup with a minute to play. However, the Scarlet Raptors grabbed a 30-19 lead heading into the locker rooms at halftime when Caleb Crosby drained a three as time expired.
 
* In the second half, the Scarlet Raptors maintained their double-digit lead the entire half and increased their lead to as many as 20 points.  A pair of free throws by Cameron Downs made the score 56-36 at the 8:41 mark.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Kelly entered the game needing just two points to reach the 1,000-career points milestone.  He accomplished the feat at the 5:20 mark of the first half after converting a pair of free throws for career points 999 and 1,000.  Kelly went on to score 13 of his team-high 17 points in the second half. He finished the game shooting a near-perfect 8-of-9 from the free throw line.
 
* Sophomore Tyler Meinel also scored in double-figures after shooting 8-of-10 from the field to finish with 16 points to go along with seven rebounds.  Meinel's 16 points tied his season-high.
 
* Smith finished the game with eight points to go along six rebounds.
 
* For Rutgers-Camden, Downs scored a game-high 19 points, while Crosby added 11 points. 
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the first-ever meeting between Abington and Rutgers-Camden.

Abington returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 22 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Neumann University in a non-conference contest.  Game time is set for 3 p.m.
