Abington Defeats Wilson in Regular Season Finale

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team defeated Wilson College, 3-0, in the final United East Conference (UEC) contest of the season on Saturday afternoon at the Abington Athletic Building.  As a result, the Nittany Lions secured the seventh seed in next week's United East championships.  Abington will host tenth-seeded Penn College in a first round match on Wednesday, Nov. 5.

How It Happened
 
* Abington trailed just once in the entire match when the Nittany Lions faced a 9-6 deficit in the second set.  Abington went on a 9-1 run to lead 15-10 before taking the set, 25-14. The Nittany Lions held double-digit leads in all three sets.
 
* The Abington defense forced 32 attack errors by the Wilson offense; the most by an opponent in a three-set match this season.  The Nittany Lions also totaled 13 blocks setting a new team single season record.

* Junior Brynn Atkins tied her career-high with an eight-block performance, including six solo blocks and two block assists.  In the process, Atkins became the program's all-time leader in solo blocks with 68 surpassing Andia Anderson who totaled 64 solo blocks from 2015-2018.  Atkins now holds the all-time marks in all three blocking categories with 68 solo blocks, 99 block assists and 167 total blocks.
 
* Sophomore Ellie Van Otten led the team with a match-high 11 kills as she recorded a .360 attack percentage after committing only two errors on 25 total attacks.  Van Otten also had a pair of aces.
 
* Freshman Mari Banjoff finished the match with 25 assists and a season-high 13 digs.  It marked the third straight match with 20-plus assists.
 
* Sophomore Fabiola Medina also recorded double-digit digs as she totaled 11 to go along with two aces. 
 
* For Wilson, Michaela Windisch recorded 19 assists and eight digs, while Addie Hebert totaled a team-high 11 digs.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the sixth meeting between Abington and Wilson since the start of the 2016 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 5-1 versus the Phoenix in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington will be making its third straight postseason appearance when the Nittany Lions host Penn College on Wednesday, Nov. 5 in a first round contest.  Match time is set for 7 p.m.
