Abington Drops Road Contest to Cougars

Dallas, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's basketball team hit a road block as the Nittany Lions fell to Misericordia University, 95-67, in a non-conference contest on Monday night at the Anderson Sports-Health Center.

How It Happened
 
* Both teams hit a three on their first possession as junior K'Mari Smith drained Abington's to give the Nittany Lions the first lead of the game.  Senior JoJo Kelly connected on a three-pointer minutes later to give Abington an 11-10 advantage at the 15:51 mark.
 
* Kelly's three-pointer turned out to be the final lead by the Nittany Lions on the night as the Cougars answered with 13-2 run.  Darryl Wright hit a three to give Misericordia a 23-13 advantage.
 
* As the first half progressed, the Cougars swelled their lead to as many as 22 points after Ryan Nasuti connected on a three-pointer to make the score 44-22 with less than three minutes to play in the half.  The Cougars went on to take a 47-28 lead into the locker rooms at halftime.
 
* In the second half, Misericordia maintained its double-digit lead and held a 28-point advantage at the 15:42 mark.  A layup basket by Nate Townsend gave the Cougars a 59-31 lead.
 
* Misericordia shot 50-percent from the field or better in both halves and connected on 12-of-23 from beyond the arc.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Kelly netted 21 points to lead the Nittany Lions in scoring.  It marked his fourth 20-plus point performance of the season.
 
* Junior Mike Byfield finished with a season-high 17 points as he has scored in double-figures in two straight games.
 
* Sophomore Tyler Meinel added 12 points and six rebounds, while Smith totaled 11 points (5-8 FG).
 
* Junior Tamir Powell recorded a team-high seven rebounds.
 
* For Misericordia, Matt Prociak recorded a double-double with a team-high 19 points to go along with 10 rebounds.  D.J. Orloff added 12 points and six rebounds off the bench.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the fourth meeting between Abington and Misericordia since the start of the 2018-19 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 1-3 versus the Cougars in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington is idle through the Thanksgiving holiday and will resume play on Wednesday, Dec. 3 as the Nittany Lions open United East Conference play with a matchup at Penn College.  Game time is set for 5 p.m.
