Abington Faces Loyola in Exhibition

Baltimore, Md. – The Penn State Abington men's basketball team unofficially kicked off its season on Thursday when the Nittany Lions faced Division I Loyola University Maryland in an exhibition game at Reitz Arena.  The Greyhounds defeated the Nittany Lions, 96-60.

How It Happened
 
* Abington kept things close early in the first half after overcoming an 8-0 deficit to start the game.  The Nittany Lions went on a 13-5 run to tie the game at 13-13 at the 12:30 mark after a layup score by senior JoJo Kelly
 
* The Nittany Lions grabbed their first lead of the game when junior Tyler Fox hit a jumper to make the score 15-14.  Abington held a two-point lead a little later in the half at 23-21 after junior Mike Byfield scored a layup with 9:18 to play in the half.
 
* Loyola would go on to grab a 12-point lead with a 21-7 surge over the next six minutes.  The Greyhounds led 42-30 with 3:14 left until halftime.  The Nittany Lions cut the lead to six after Kelly hit a three-pointer as time expired in the half to make the score 44-38.
 
* In the second half, Loyola outscored Abington, 52-22, as the Greyhounds shot nearly 50-percent from the field.  Loyola connected on 6-of-12 from the three-point line in the second half.
 
Inside the Box Score

* Kelly led the Nittany Lions with a game-high 25 points on 9-of-19 shooting from the field, including a near-perfect 6-of-7 from the free throw line.
 
* Sophomore Sean Murphy also scored in double-figures as he finished with 11 points (5-8 FG) to go along with four boards.
 
* Junior Joshua Hunter grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
 
* For Loyola, six players scored in double-figures with Sam Springer leading the way with a team-high 16 points.  Jordan Stiemke added 15 points, while Jacob Theodosiou totaled 14 points.
 
Next Up
Abington officially tips-off its season on Friday as the Nittany Lions host Arcadia University in a non-conference contest.  Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the Abington Athletic Building.
