Abington Falls to Brandywine in United East Action

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's basketball team dropped a United East Conference (UEC) matchup to visiting Penn State Brandywine by the score of 72-63 on Saturday afternoon at the Abington Athletic Building.

How It Happened
 
* Brandywine jumped out to a 13-2 lead and led by as many as 12 points in the first half.  Jack Swider knocked down a three-pointer that gave Brandywine a 16-4 lead at the 12:44 mark.
 
* Abington trailed 22-11 with less than eight minutes to play until halftime.  The Nittany Lions went on a 9-2 run to cut the deficit down to four points after junior K'Mari Smith completed a three-point play with a free throw.  Smith's three-point play made the score 24-20 with 4:24 on the clock.
 
* Abington came within three points of tying the game in the final minute after Smith converted a pair of free throws that made the score 30-27.  Brandywine went on to lead 32-27 at the conclusion of the half.
 
* Brandywine opened the second half with a 15-2 run to grab its biggest lead of the game. Jaden Fogg finished a three-point play with a free throw to make the score 47-29 at the 14:39 mark.  
 
* As the half progressed, Abington chipped away at the lead coming within seven points of Brandywine. Sophomore Tyler Meinel connected on a pair of free throws as Abington trailed 63-56 with just over two minutes to play.
 
* Free throws down the stretch kept Abington from inching closer to the lead.  Brandywine shot 7-of-8 from the free throw line in the final two minutes.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Senior JoJo Kelly scored a game-high 21 points to go along with nine rebounds, four assists and two steals.  It marked Kelly's fourth straight 20-plus point performance and sixth of the season.
 
* Meinel shot a near-perfect 6-of-7 from the field to finish with 16 points.  He also had five rebounds.
 
* Smith also scored in double-figures as he finished the day with 14 points and eight rebounds.
 
* For Brandywine, Corwin Holland II led the team with 16 points, while Ahmaar Godhania finished with 11 points. 
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the sixth meeting between Abington and Brandywine since the start of the 2011-12 season.  Abington is now 2-4 in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Monday, Dec. 8 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Gwynedd Mercy University in a non-conference contest.  Game time is set for 6 p.m.
