Abington Defeats Lakeland in Rout, 17-6

Auburndale, Fla. – The Penn State Abington baseball team picked up its third straight victory and fourth in its last five games after defeating Lakeland University, 17-6, in a non-conference contest on Wednesday afternoon at the RussMatt Baseball Invitational at Lake Myrtle Park in Florida.

How It Happened
 
* Abington trailed 4-1 after the Muskies scored four runs in the bottom of the first.  However, the Nittany Lions responded with five runs in the second to grab a 6-4 advantage.  Sophomore Donato Incollingo highlighted the inning with a three-run homer.
 
* Abington added another run in the third to increase its lead to 7-5 after senior Jake Fallers connected on a solo home run.  The Nittany Lions tacked on another three runs in the fourth with three different players driving in runs.  By the fifth inning, Abington led 12-6 thanks to two more runs in the inning.
 
* The Nittany Lions added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to increase their lead to 14-6 before capping the scoring with a three-run eighth inning. Sophomore Julian Grandelli had a two-run single that made the score 17-6.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Senior Owen Lynch (2-0) earned his second win of the season after going six strong innings for the Nittany Lions.  Senior Ryan Bethel made his first appearance of the year and pitched two scoreless innings of relief allowing just a walk.
 
* Senior Shane Fillman filled the box score with a 4-for-5 day to go along with three runs and four RBI.
 
* Incollingo finished 3-for-5 with a run and five RBI, including his third home run of the season.
 
* Fallers also had multiple hits in the game as he went 3-for-5 with three runs and an RBI.  
 
* Sophomore Zach DiMario went 2-for-5 with an RBI.
 
* For Lakeland, Logan South went 4-for-5 with a run, while Zak Keegan finished 2-for-5 with a run and two RBI.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the first-ever meeting between Abington and Lakeland.

Abington returns to action on Friday, March 14 as the Nittany Lions wrap up their Florida trip with a doubleheader against St. Joseph's College (Maine).  Game one is set for 9:15 a.m.
