Abington Drops Non-Conference Contest at Neumann

Aston, Pa. – The Penn State Abington baseball team dropped a non-conference contest at Neumann University by the score of 14-7 on Wednesday afternoon at Bruder Field.

How It Happened
 
* A 10-run fourth inning by the Knights turned out to be the difference in the game.  Neumann recorded eight hits in the inning, including back-to-back two-run doubles by Tyler Kilmer and Anthony Rakotz.
 
* An inning prior, Abington grabbed its only lead of the game after trailing 2-0.  The Nittany Lions scored all six runs with two outs in the frame.  Junior Paul Figueroa highlighted the inning with a three-run triple that gave the Nittany Lions a 6-2 lead.
 
* Abington scored a single run in the fifth to make the score 12-7 after senior Josh McGee forced in a run on a ground out.  It turned out to be the team's final run of the game.
 
* Neumann tacked on two runs in the eighth to cap the scoring at 14-7.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Three players registered multiple hits in the game for the Nittany Lions.  Senior Gaetan Grandelli went 2-for-5 with two runs scored an an RBI.  McGee finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI, while sophomore Donato Incollingo went 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.
 
* Figueroa recorded a game-high three RBI after going 1-for-3 with a walk.
 
* Sophomore Derek Aub pitched 2.2 innings of relief as he surrendered just one unearned run while striking out three batters.  Fellow sophomore Ben Mitchell pitched a scoreless seventh inning with one strikeout.
 
* For Neumann, JerVal Shuler went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, while Brandon Colon finished 3-for-4 with a run and two RBI.  Nick Colon (2-0) picked up the win as he went six innings for the Knights.  Rey Carrier earned the save after pitching three scoreless innings of relief.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the fourth meeting between Abington and Neumann since the start of the 2019 season.  The Nittany Lions ae now 1-3 versus the Knights in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, March 22 as the Nittany Lions host Penn College in the team's home opener and first United East contest of the season.  Game one is set for 12 p.m. at Alverthorpe Park.
