Abington Cruises Past Lions, 6-1

Bryn Athyn, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's tennis team won its third straight match after defeating cross-town rival Bryn Athyn College, 6-1, in a United East Conference (UEC) contest on Tuesday afternoon at Gladish Tennis Courts.  The Nittany Lions improve to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

How It Happened
 
* Abington won all three doubles competitions to take the team point for doubles.  The Nittany Lions shutout Bryn Athyn in all three matches by the scores of 6-0.
 
* The Nittany Lions dominated singles play with both sophomore Sevara Tursunboeva and freshman Maman Saly Mbengue registering shutout victories in their respective matches.  Mbengue defeated Karisma Godown at fifth singles (6-0, 6-0), while Tursunboeva won her sixth singles match over Gretchen Varona (6-0, 6-0).
 
* Sophomore Laurie Flemming won her fifth straight match to improve to 7-1 on the year at first singles.  Flemming defeated Hunter Daum in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2.
 
* Junior Soniyah Youngblood picked up her third straight victory after defeating Keren Abraham by the scores of 6-1, 6-0 at third singles.
 
* Junior Morgan Schaefer also registered her third straight triumph with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at fourth singles against Ashley Agondanou.
 
* Bryn Athyn earned its lone point as Thea Keal won at second singles.  Keal went the distance against senior Isabella DePorre who rallied to force a third set tiebreak. DePorre shutout Keal in the second set, 6-0.  Keal won the tiebreak by two points at 10-8.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 10th meeting between Abington and Bryn Athyn since the start of the 2011-12 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 10-0 versus the Lions in the all-time series.

Abington returns to action on Saturday, April 5 as the Nittany Lions host Penn College in United East action.  Match time is set for 1 p.m. at the Abington Tennis Courts on campus.
