Yanss Records 400th Strikeout as Abington Overpowers Giants

South Abington Twp, Pa. – Senior Gretchen Yanss recorded her 400th career strikeout in game one of a United East Conference (UEC) doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Keystone College as the Penn State Abington softball team cruised to a pair of victories over the Giants.  The Nittany Lions won the opener by the score of 15-1 and then took game two, 10-2.

How It Happened (Game 1)
 
* Yanss connected on a two-run home run in the first inning to give Abington a 2-0 lead before the Nittany Lions opened the game wide open with a nine-run second inning to lead 11-0.  Yanss, freshman Lainey Scotese and sophomore Rylee Albany each drove in two runs in the inning.
 
* Yanss recorded her 400th career strikeout in the bottom of the first after striking out Hanaje Riley for the final out of the inning.  She finished the game with five strike outs and now has 403 K's in her career.
 
Inside the Box Score (Game 1)
 
* Yanss finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBI and two runs scored. Her first inning home run marked her third of the season.
 
* Sophomore Emily Foxhill also had three hits as she finished 3-for-3 with two runs and three RBI.
 
* Senior Hailey Gamble also had multiple hits as she finished 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. 
 
* Albany finished 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI.
 
How It Happened (Game 2)
 
* In game two, the Nittany Lions broke a 2-2 tie with eight runs in the top half of the fifth inning.  Abington sent 12 batters to the plate and recorded seven hits in the inning as the Nittany Lions ended the inning with a 10-2 lead.  Sophomore Isabella Antosiewicz went 2-for-2 in the inning with an RBI.
 
* Gamble gave the Nittany Lions a 1-0 lead with a leadoff home run in the first inning.  Abington doubled its lead to 2-0 in the third after Yanss drove in Gamble with a sacrifice fly.
 
* Keystone tied the game in the bottom of the third with two runs.  Angelina Morley and Emily Schultz recorded back-to-back run scoring singles.
 
Inside the Box Score (Game 2)
 
* Gamble finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.  Her first inning home run marked her first of the season and fifth of her career.
 
* Antosiewicz went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

* Freshman Riley Logan went 2-for-3 with one run and an RBI.
 
* Sophomore Paula Casale (4-4) picked up her fourth win of the season as she allowed just two runs in five innings.  Casale also struck out two batters.
 
* For Keystone, Morley went 2-for-3, while Sam Ratti finished 2-for-2.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the first-ever meeting between Abington and Keystone.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Wednesday, April 16 as the Nittany Lions host Cedar Crest College in a United East doubleheader.  Game one is set for 3 p.m. at Huntingdon Field.
