Abington Cruises Past Wildcats, 6-1

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's tennis team defeated Penn College in a United East Conference (UEC) contest by the score of 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Abington Tennis Courts on campus. Abington is now 6-5 overall and 3-2 in conference play surpassing last year's totals in both.

How It Happened
 
* Abington swept doubles play to earn the team point.  At first doubles, Laurie Flemming and Isabella DePorre defeated Ellen Buckley and Faith Murray by the score of 6-2.  The duo of Soniyah Youngblood and Maman Saly Mbengue won their second doubles match against Kayla Weinzierl and Eliza Wilshans by the same score.  The Nittany Lions got the win at third doubles by forfeit.
 
* In singles play, Flemming cruised to a straight sets victory over Buckley at first singles.  Flemming won by the scores of 6-0, 6-1 to improve to 8-2 on the year.
 
* At third singles, Youngblood defeated Weinzierl by the score of 8-1 in an eight-game pro-set. Mbengue also won her fourth singles match against Welshans by an 8-1 score.
 
* Abington received singles points at fifth and sixth singles by forfeit.
 
* Murray recorded the Wildcats' lone team point with a victory at second singles.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 10th meeting between Abington and Penn College since the start of the 2015 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 9-1 versus the Wildcats in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Monday, April 14 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Penn State Berks in a United East contest.  Match time is set for 1 p.m.
