Abington Shuts Down Eagles for Third Straight Win

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team pushed its winning streak to three straight after defeating Saint Elizabeth University by the score of 3-0 in a non-conference contest on Thursday night at the Abington Athletic Building.

How It Happened
 
* Abington took advantage of 13 attack errors by the Eagles in the opening set as the Nittany Lions came away with a 25-19 triumph to take an early lead in the match.  Despite the errors on offense, the Eagles led majority of the set.  Trailing 18-16 late in the set, the Nittany Lions ripped off eight straight points to grab a 24-18 lead.  Sophomore Fabiola Medina recorded two of her three aces in the set during that stretch.  Saint Elizabeth registered six attack errors in that span, including on match-point to give Abington the set win.
 
* Another late run by the Nittany Lions fueled a 25-21 victory in set two.  Abington broke an 11-11 tie scoring six of the next eight points in the set to lead 17-13.  The Nittany Lions never trailed the rest of the set leading by as many as five points at 22-17 after a kill by sophomore Ellie Van Otten.
 
* Abington cruised to a third set victory to take the match with a 25-11 triumph.  Leading 11-8, the Nittany Lions rallied with an 8-1 run to grab a double-digit lead at 19-9.  Abington went on to score the final six points of the set with Van Otten capping the scoring with a kill.

*  Van Otten finished with a match-high 11 kills to go along with four digs.  She recorded an attack percentage of .417 after committing just one error on 25 total attempts.
 
* Junior Zayna Jamaladdin added seven kills, while freshman Maya Giles totaled six kills and three digs.  Giles made one error on 10 attempts for a .500 attack percentage.
 
* Junior Ryenn Mamrosch paced the offense with 25 assists to go along with a match-high nine digs on defense.
 
* Sophomore Angel Morales finished the night with eight digs and a match-high four aces.
 
* For Saint Elizabeth,  Marissa Heimbaugh led the team with eight kills, while Alyssa Wells finished with nine digs. 
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 11th meeting between Abington and Saint Elizabeth since the start of the 2013 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 9-2 versus the Eagles after winning the last five matches in the series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 20 as the Nittany Lions travel to Penn State Berks for a tri-match.  Abington will face Berks at 11 a.m. and then take on Marywood University at 1 p.m.
