Abington Shuts Out NJCU, 4-0

Abington, Pa. – Sophomore Temur Temirov scored a pair of goals as the Penn State Abington men's soccer team shut out visiting New Jersey City University, 4-0, in a non-conference contest on Wednesday afternoon at Memorial Field.

How It Happened
 
* The Abington offense recorded a season-high 20 shots, including 13 in the first half.  The pressure by the Nittany Lions paid off as junior Hugh Nungessor broke the scoreless game with his second goal of the season in the 24th minute.  Sophomore Frankie Rafferty assisted on the score for his first of two assists on the afternoon.
 
* Abington doubled its lead less than 10 minutes later when Temirov connected on his first goal of the game in the 34th minute.  The goal marked his first career tally.
 
* The Nittany Lions nearly came away with another goal before the half.  Senior Timothy Kane had a shot on-goal in the 41st minute and sophomore Kyle Sheridan ripped one towards the net in the 45th minute, however NJCU's Camilo Pascual Verdu made the stop on both shots.  Pascual Verdu finished the game with nine saves.
 
* Junior Laurence Narcisi made it a 3-0 game :44 seconds into the second half with his first goal of the season.  Rafferty helped with the score with his second assist of the game.
 
* The score remained 3-0 until the 77th minute when Temirov tallied his second goal of the game to give the Nittany Lions a 4-0 advantage.  Freshman Liame Attis recorded his first career point and assist on the play.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Temirov recorded his first two goals of his career and first multi-goal game of the season by an Abington player. 
 
* Rafferty fired off a game-high four shots with one on-goal to go along with his first two career assists.
 
* Narcisi recorded three shots with one on-goal as he tallied his first goal of the season and the eighth of his career.
 
* Senior Brendan Werner tied his season-high with six saves in net as he recorded his second shutout of the season.  Werner, the program's all-time leader in shutouts, now has 14 in his career.

Today marked the first-ever meeting between Abington and New Jersey City. 
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 27 as the Nittany Lions open United East Conference play against Notre Dame of Maryland University.  Game time is set for 1 p.m. at Memorial Field.
