Abington Defeats Rutgers-Camden in Season Opener

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's tennis team opened the fall portion of the 2025-26 season with a home triumph over visiting Rutgers University – Camden by the score of 5-2 in a non-conference contest on Saturday afternoon at the Abington Tennis Courts on campus.

How It Happened
 
* Abington earned the point after doubles competitions.  The Nittany Lions won third doubles by forfeit and cliched the point after the duo of Kaan Ofluoglu and Charlie Batman defeated Isan Salamanca and John Brady at second doubles.  Ofluoglu and Batman dropped the first game but went on to win six of the next seven for a 6-2 victory.
 
* At first doubles, Krishna Gurram and Dan Trott led throughout over Max Cabida and Julian Pinder until the score was tied at 4-4.  Gurram and Trott scored the next two points to take the win at 6-4.
 
* In singles action, Trott and Ofluoglu each earned their first collegiate victories.  Trott cruised to a straight sets victory at second singles by the scores of 6-1, 6-0 over Pinder.  Ofluoglu also won his fourth singles match in straights by the scores of 6-1, 6-2 against Salamanca.
 
* Abington earned the points at fifth and sixth singles by forfeit as the Nittany
 Lions won the match, 5-2. 
 
* Rutgers-Camden had victories at first and third singles.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the ninth meeting between Abington and Rutgers-Camden since the start of the 2011-12 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 5-4 versus the Scarlet Raptors in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 4 as the Nittany Lions host Eastern University in a non-conference contest.  Match time is set for 12 p.m.
