Abington’s Late Surge Falls Short at Salisbury

Salisbury, Md. – The Penn State Abington men's basketball team nearly overcame a 20-point second half deficit as the Nittany Lions' rally fell short, 94-88, against Salisbury University on Tuesday evening at the Maggs Center.

How It Happened
 
* Abington trailed by as many as 20 points later in the second half after a three-pointer by Daniel Oyediran gave Salisbury an 87-67 advantage with 4:31 remaining in regulation.
 
* Over the next four-plus minutes the Nittany Lions rallied and used a 16-5 to come within seven points of the lead with :22 seconds left on the clock.  Senior JoJo Kelly drained a three to make the score 90-83. 
 
* Free throws helped the Seagulls keep their lead intact in the final seconds despite another three-pointer by Kelly brining Abington to within six points at 92-86. 
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Kelly finished with 23 points marking his third straight 20-plus scoring performance and the 10th of the season. He converted 10-of-12 attempts at the free throw line and totaled a team best eight rebounds.
 
* Junior Tyler Fox also finished the game with 23 points (8-14 FG) setting a new season-high.  Fox shot 5-of-6 from three-point range.
 
* Junior K'Mari Smith finished the night with 12 points off the bench as he dished out a team-high five assists. 
 
* Junior Tamir Powell added nine points and four boards, while sophomore Tyler Meinel recorded eight points.
 
* For Salisbury, five players scored in double-figures, including Elijah Carroll who score a team-high 21 points off the bench.  Churchill Bounds recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the fifth meeting between Abington and Salisbury since the start of the 2011-12 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 0-5 versus the Seagulls in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 17 as the Nittany Lions host Rosemont College in a United East Conference contest.  Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. at the Abington Athletic Building.
