Abington Overpowers Rosemont, 67-46

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's basketball team led the entire way as the Nittany Lions were too much for Rosemont College in a 67-46 decision in United East Conference (UEC) action on Saturday afternoon at the Abington Athletic Building.  The Nittany Lions improved to 3-3 in conference play with the victory.

How It Happened
 
* Abington scored the first nine points of the game, including six by sophomore Tyler Meinel who went 3-for-3 from the field on the opening rally.  Meinel finished the half a perfect 7-of-7 shooting with 14 of his game-high 20 points coming in the first half.
 
* The Nittany Lions pushed their lead to double-figures for the first time at the 10:56 mark when Meinel scored a layup basket to make the score 18-7.  Abington's lead swelled to as many as 19 points in the half after junior K'Mari Smith completed a three-point play with a free throw.  Smith's three point possession gave Abington a 29-10 lead with 4:27 to play in the half.  The Nittany Lions went on to lead 37-20 at the half.
 
* In the second half, Abington cruised as its lead never fell below double-digits.  In fact, the Nittany Lions increased their advantage to as many as 28 points.  With less than four minutes to play, junior Mike Byfield converted a pair of free throws that gave Abington a 62-34 lead.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
*  Meinel led all scorers with a season-high 20 points as he shot 10-of-15 from the field.  He also grabbed seven rebounds and totaled two steals and a block on defense.
 
* Junior Tyler Fox also scored in double-figures as he came away with 15 points.
 
* Senior JoJo Kelly totaled nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds.  Kelly also dished out four assists.
 
* Smith added eight points and eight rebounds, while Byfield contributed eight points and four boards.
 
* For Rosemont, Chris Taylor scored a team-high 11 points off the bench, while Tyler Jackson finished the game with 10 points.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the fourth meeting between Abington and Rosemont since the start of the 2011-12 season and the first since 2014-15.  The Nittany Lions are now 1-3 versus the Ravens in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 21 as the Nittany Lions host Cairn University in a United East contest. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
