Abington Falls at Home to Gators

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's basketball team dropped a United East Conference (UEC) contest against Notre Dame of Maryland University by the score of 83-75 on Saturday afternoon at the Abington Athletic Building.

How It Happened
 
* Notre Dame opened the game on an 11-3 run and held a double-digit lead at the 13:45 mark when Marlon Lewis scored a layup basket to give the Gators a 10-point (15-5) advantage.
 
* Abington answered and used a 15-2 surge to grab its first lead since leading 2-0 off the opening tip.  Senior JoJo Kelly and junior Tyler Fox hit back-to-back threes before junior Mike Byfield scored a layup basket to cap the run for a 20-17 advantage midway through the half.  
 
* Notre Dame answered back with a run of its own outscoring Abington 21-7 over the next eight minutes of game time.  The Gators led 38-24 after Anthony Wright drained a three-pointer with 3:12 to play until halftime.  Notre Dame went on to lead 42-27 at the half with its biggest lead of the game to that point.
 
* In the second half, Abington cut the deficit down to eight points after Byfield knocked down a three-pointer to make the score 49-41 at the 14:27 mark.  However, a 15-2 run pushed the Gators lead back to double-digits at 64-43 for their biggest lead of the game with less than eight minutes remaining.
 
* Abington chipped away at the Gators' lead and came within single digits however time was also against the Nittany Lions.  Byfield registered a three-point play in the final seconds to make the score 83-75.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Fox had a career day as he scored a season-high 29 points after shooting 11-of-21 from the field, including 6-of-10 from beyond the arc.  He scored 22 of his 29 points in the final seven minutes and 24 seconds of the game that featured 8-of-11 shooting.
 
* Byfield tied his season-high as he totaled 18 points (7-13 FG) for the second straight game.  He also grabbed five rebounds.
 
* Kelly finished with nine points, while sophomore Tyler Meinel added eight points and seven rebounds.
 
* Junior K'Mari Smith set season-highs with 10 assists and nine rebounds.
 
* Sophomore Jeremiah Samuel scored a season-high five points to go along with four rebounds.
 
* For the Gators, Marlon Lewis finished with 26 points (12-17 FG) and five blocks, while Jahbreco Dacosta recorded a double-double off the bench with 13 points and 11 boards.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked just the third meeting between Abington and Notre Dame.  The Nittany Lions are now 0-3 versus the Gators in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 4 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Penn State Berks in United East action.  Game time is set for 5 p.m.
