Abington Begins 2026 with Setback at Harrisburg

Middletown, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's basketball team began 2026 with a setback at United East Conference (UEC) rival Penn State Harrisburg on Saturday afternoon at the Capital Union Building.  Harrisburg came away with a 74-50 victory.

How It Happened
 
* Harrisburg opened the game with an 8-0 run and went on to hold a nine-point advantage at the 14:19 mark after a three-pointer by Dylan Moore made the score 13-4.
 
* Abington quickly answered with a 7-0 rally to cut the deficit down to two points at 13-11 after senior JoJo Kelly tipped-in a missed layup.  Harrisburg responded on the ensuing possession with a three-pointer from Kevin Lucas Jr to increase the lead to five, but Abington knocked down a three of its own two possessions later to make it a two-point game once more at 16-14.
 
* Harrisburg kept Abington at arm's length the rest of the half holding onto a 2-3 possession lead.  Harrisburg led 32-22 at the half.
 
* In the second half, Harrisburg never allowed Abington to come within single digits of the lead again.  The home team led by as many as 25 points after a three-pointer by Elija Eccleston extended the lead to 58-33 at the 8:35 mark.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Kelly led all scorers with a game-high 16 points to go along with a team-high nine rebounds.
 
* Juniors K'Mari Smith and Mike Byfield each added nine points.  Smith also totaled five assists and three steals.
 
* For Harrisburg, Jordan Spencer scored a team-high 15 points and grabbed 10 boards to record a double-double.  Dylan Moore finished with nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

Today marked the 17th meeting between Abington and Harrisburg since the start of the 2011-12 season.  Abington is now 3-14 versus Harrisburg in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 7 as the Nittany Lions host the University of Valley Forge in a United East contest.  Game time is set for 5 p.m. at the Abington Athletic Building.
