Hackney Records 1,000th Career Point; Reid Sets Assists Record in Rout of Patriots

Abington, Pa. – Junior Amirah Hackney recorded her 1,000th career point and junior Amina Reid became the program's all-time assists leader as the Penn State Abington women's basketball team dominated the University of Valley Forge in United East Conference (UEC) action on Wednesday night at the Abington Athletic Building.  The Nittany Lions scored a program record 107 points in the 107-27 rout of the Patriots.

How It Happened
 
* Abington opened the game on a 23-0 run and never looked back as the Nittany Lions led 32-6 by the end of the first quarter.  Hackney scored 22 of her career-high 34 points in the first 8:16 minutes in the opening quarter and that was good enough to reach the 1,000 career point milestone.  She drained a three-pointer at the 1:44 mark for career points 998, 999 and 1,000. 
 
* The Nittany Lions held the Patriots to just 10 points in the first half as Abington held a 52-10 advantage at the half. 
 
* Abington went on to outscore Valley Forge, 55-17, in the second half.  Junior Sereniti Minor scored a layup with 1:10 remaining in regulation to give Abington a new team scoring record with 105 points.  The Nittany Lions finished the game with 107.  The team's previous high came in Jan. 24, 2024 when the NIttany Lions scored 104 points against Penn State Berks in the Athletic Building. 
 
Inside the Box Score
 
*   Hackney netted a career-high 34 points as she became the sixth player in program history to reach the 1,000 career point milestone.  She finished the game with six three-pointers to go along with five rebounds and five steals. 
 
* Junior Amina Reid flirted with a triple-double as she filled the box score with 17 points, 12 assists and nine steals.  Reid's 12 assists set a new career-high pushing her career total to 311 as she surpassed former standouts Shayna Rodriguez (301) and Trish Watson (305) for most assists in program history. With her nine steals, Reid is now tied for second all-time with Watson with 227 steals.
 
* Sophomore Hailey Revak scored a season-high 21 points after connecting on seven three-pointers; one shy of her career-high. 
 
* Sophomore Tarianda Washington grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds to tie her career-high. 
 
* Minor scored a season-high 10 points to go along with six rebounds.
 
* For Valley Forge, Lucy Mauerman scored a team-high 15 points, while Gina Melendez added eight points.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the fifth meeting between Abington and Valley Forge since the start of the 2011-12 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 4-1 versus the Patriots in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 10 as the Nittany Lions travel to Maryland to take on St. Mary's College in a United East contest.  Game time is set for 3 p.m.
