Abington Clinches Postseason Berth with Win at Keystone

La Plume, Pa. – Juniors Mike Byfield (27pts | 12rebs) and Tyler Fox (10pts | 11rebs) each recorded double-doubles as the Penn State Abington men's basketball team defeated Keystone College, 77-64, in a United East Conference (UEC) contest on Tuesday night at Ace Spalding Arena.  The victory clinched a postseason spot in the upcoming conference tournament for the Nittany Lions.

How It Happened
 
* Abington trailed by as many as 13 points with less than five minutes to play in the first half.  A pair of free throws by Ahmodrion Jones gave Keystone a 28-15 advantage capping an 9-1 run by the Giants. 
 
* Abington closed out the final 3:35 of the opening half with a 13-0 run to tie the game at 28-28.  Fox jumpstarted the run with a three-pointer as the Nittany Lions scored on six of their final seven possessions.  Senior JoJo Kelly tied the score with a pair of free throws with :25 seconds remaining until halftime.
 
* The offensive run continued in the second half as Abington scored the first nine points to push its lead to 37-28.  Fox, this time around, closed the run with a three-pointer as the Nittany Lions scored 22 unanswered points.
 
* Keystone finally scored a basket at the 17:49 mark to halt the run.  It was the Giants' first field goal since 5:05 in the first half.
 
* The Abington lead hit double-digits for the first time with 16:02 to play when Kelly scored a fastbreak layup to make the score 41-30.  The Nittany Lions lead dipped to single digits momentarily at 45-36, however a 14-0 run put the game out of reach as Abington led 59-36 with 8:18 to play. 
 
* The Nittany Lions maintained their double-digit lead the rest of the half outscoring Keystone, 49-36, in the final 20 minutes.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Byfield exploded for a season-high 27 points after shooting 12-of-17 from the field, including 3-of-4 from deep range.  He also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds to register his second double-double of the season. 
 
* Fox also recorded a double-double, the first of the season, after scoring 10 points and grabbing a season-high 11 rebounds.  He also dished out a game-high six assists.
 
* Kelly finished the game with 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists, while junior K'Mari Smith added 10 points, four rebounds and five assists.
 
* Sophomore Tyler Meinel scored 15 points (7-11 FG) off the bench.
 
* For Keystone, Jden Golding scored a team-high 19 points to go along with seven rebounds, while Jones totaled 17 points and five boards.

Tonight marked the first-ever meeting between Abington and Keystone.
 
Postseason Picture
Abington, winners of two straight, is now 5-7 in conference play and is currently in a three-way tie for seventh place with Wilson College and Penn State Berks.
 
Next Up
Abington wraps up the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 14 as the Nittany Lions travel to Wilson for a United East contest.  Game time is set for 1 p.m.
