Abington Wins Ninth Straight to Close out Regular Season

Chambersburg, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's basketball team cruised to a 91-62 victory at Wilson College to close out the regular season on Saturday afternoon at the Gannett Field House.  The victory pushed the Nittany Lions' record to 11-2 in the United East Conference (UEC) securing the third seed in the upcoming conference tournament.
 
The win also marked the team's ninth straight victory tying the program's single season record for most consecutive victories in the Division III era.  The winning streak matches the 2014-15 team that won nine straight games on its way to the conference title (NEAC) that season.

How It Happened
 
* It was another dominating performance by Abington.  Leading 15-8 with less than three minutes to play in the opening quarter, the Nittany Lions found their rhythm and closed the quarter on a quick 7-0 run.  A three-point play capped with a free throw by junior Sereniti Minor gave the Nittany Lions a 14-point lead (22-8) heading into the second frame.
 
* Abington pushed its run to 10-0 after junior Amina Reid knocked down a three on the team's first possession to make the score 25-8.  As the quarter progressed, the Abington lead never dipped below single digits and increased to as many as 18 in the final minutes.  A three-point play finished off with a free throw by senior Nia Newman made the score 44-26.  Newman scored a layup as time expired in the half to give Abington a 46-31 advantage heading into the locker rooms at halftime.
 
* In the third quarter, the Nittany Lions increased their lead to as many 30 points after junior Amirah Hackney scored a layup basket to make the score 69-39 at the 2:56 mark.
 
* Abington's biggest lead came early in the final frame.  Sophomore Hailey Revak drained a three-pointer to give Abington an 81-45 advantage.

* Nia Newman scored a game-high 24 points (7-12 FG) to go along with six rebounds. 
 
* Hackney also had a 20-plus point performance, her 10th of the season, as she totaled 20 points and a game-high 13 rebounds to record her third double-double of the season.  Hackney also blocked four shots and had three steals defensively.
 
* Reid filled the box score with 13 points, five rebounds, a game-high eighth assists and eight steals on defense.
 
* Minor finished with 15 points (6-10 FG) while also totaling six rebounds and two steals.
 
* Revak added nine points as she connected on 3-of-5 from three-point range.
 
* For Wilson, Jewels Torres and Leah Laubach each scored 16 points.  Chloe Irving totaled 13 points and 10 rebounds to record a double-double.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 16th meeting between Abington and Wilson since the start of the 2011-12 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 14-2 versus the Phoenix in the all-time series after winning the last 14 matchups.
 
Next Up
Both teams will meet up a week from today (Feb. 21) in the United East quarterfinals as the third-seeded Nittany Lions host the sixth-seeded Phoenix.  Abington and Wilson were among six teams to receive a first-round bye in the conference tournament.
