How It Happened

* Gwynedd Mercy jumped out to a 2-0 lead after Jacob Ruddell delivered a two-out double to right-center field that drove in a pair of runs.

* Abington answered with single runs in the next three innings to take a 3-2 lead after five.  Junior Akira Nakamura drove in the team's first run as sophomore Aqual Chapman scored after leading the inning off with a double.  In the fourth inning, freshman John Busco tied the game with a run-scoring single and the Nittany Lions took the lead in the fifth after junior Donato Incollingo scored junior Nathan Schurga with a sacrifice fly.

* Leading 3-2 entering the eighth inning, Abington added a couple insurance runs off the bat of Busco who connected on his first career home run.  His two-run shot gave the Nittany Lions a 5-2 lead.

* In the bottom of the ninth, the Griffins made things interesting plating two runs to make the score 5-4.  However, freshman Jason Handfield entered and retired the final three batters to earn his first collegiate save.
