Newman Records Triple-Double in Rout of Berks

Reading, Pa. – Senior Naila Newman recorded her first career triple-double as the Penn State Abington women's basketball team defeated Penn State Berks, 80-43, in United East Conference (UEC) action on Wednesday night at the Beaver Athletics & Wellness Center. Abington, winners of six straight, is now 8-2 in conference play.

How It Happened
 
* Abington trailed 13-10 at the 3:06 mark of the first quarter and used an 8-1 run to close out the quarter to lead 18-14. Sophomore Tarianda Washington capped the run with a layup basket as time expired.
 
* In the second quarter, Abington jumped out with a 13-2 run to swell its lead to 15 points.  Senior Nia Newman's layup basket at the 4:34 made the score 31-16.  Abington outscored Berks, 21-8, in the quarter to take a 39-22 lead into the locker rooms at halftime.
 
* Outside of halftime, Abington held Berks to single digits once again outscoring the host team, 14-4, in the third quarter.  Abington pushed its lead to 27 points after Nia Newman drained a three-pointer on the team's final possession of the frame.
 
* Abington held its biggest lead of the game late in the fourth quarter after sophomore Hailey Revak knocked down a three-pointer to make the score 75-34.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Senior Naila Newman recorded her first career triple-double as she finished the game with 16 points, 11 assists and 10 steals.  Newman also totaled six rebounds.  She is the second player this season to register a triple-double joining junior Amina Reid who accomplished the feat back in January against Manor College. Newman is the fourth player to record a triple-double in the program's Division III era.
 
* Washington recorded her second double-double of the season as she totaled 14 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. She also had five steals on defense.
 
* Junior Amirah Hackney finished the game with 15 points and six rebounds, while Nia Newman added 11 points and eight boards.
 
* Revak also scored in double-figures as she came away with 12 points off the bench.
 
* For Berks, Hailey Miller led the team with 16 points and six rebounds. 
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 25th meeting between Abington and Berks since the start of the 2011-12 season.  Abington is now 16-9 versus Berks in the all-time series and have won the last seven matchups.
 
Next Up
Abington is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 7 as the Nittany Lions host Gallaudet University in a United East contest.  Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. at the Abington Athletic Building.
