How It Happened

* Freshman Jaxon Horvath led off with a walk and junior Andrew Holt followed with a base hit to right to jump start the bottom of the second inning. Senior Benjamin Gagnon dropped down a bunt to advance the runners however an errant throw allowed Horvath to score to give Abington a 1-0 lead.  During the next at-bat, a failed pickoff led to Holt to score from third as the throw sailed by the first baseman. After scoring the two runs, the Nittany Lions managed to load the bases with no one out, but the Eagles' Quentin Torres retired the next three batters to get out of the jam.

* In the third, Saint Elizabeth answered and took a 4-2 lead after Cameron Vicari cleared the bases with a grand slam over the right field fence.  The Eagles scored in each of the next three innings and expanded their lead to 9-3.

* Abington made it a two-run game in the bottom of the sixth after scoring four runs.  The Nittany Lions took advantage of a pair of fielding miscues by the Eagles in the inning. Junior Akira Nakamura singled to right and drove in Nathan Schurga.  A fielding blunder by the right fielder allowed Nakamura to advance to second but also allow freshman John Busco to score from first.  Nakamura later scored on a single down the left field line by junior Donato Incollingo to make it a 9-6 game.  Incollingo stole second and then scored on another fielding error; this time by the Eagles' second baseman to cut the deficit down to 9-7.

* In the eighth, Saint Elizabeth tacked on a pair of insurance runs after a single up the middle by Mark Nesler, Jr. with two outs in the inning.  Nesler's two-run hit increased the Eagles' lead to 11-7.

* Abington made things interesting in the bottom of the ninth. Sophomore John Marcucci drew his third walk of the game and Schurga was plunked with a pitch to give the Nittany Lions a pair of base runners.  Marcucci and Schurga advanced into scoring position thanks to a wild pitch and then scored on a base hit to center by Busco to make the score 11-9.  However, the Abington rally fell short despite having the potential tying run at the plate with just one out in the inning.  Georffrey Laliberte, Jr. managed to retire the next two batters, including a strikeout for the final out of the game to give the Eagles the two-run victory.
