Abington Drops United East Doubleheader at Harrisburg

Middletown, Pa. – The Penn State Abington baseball team dropped a United East Conference (UEC) doubleheader at Penn State Harrisburg on Saturday afternoon at Nittany Field.  Harrisburg defeated Abington 19-1 in seven innings in the opener and won game two by the score of 10-7.

How It Happened (Game 1)
 
* A 15-run second inning by Harrisburg was the difference in the game as 19 batters came to the plate in the frame.  The home team Nittany Lions recorded 13 hits in the inning, including Blaine Waltimyer who led the inning off with a double.  Later in the inning, Waltimyer connected on a grand slam.  Matthew Johansen also went 2-for-2 in the inning with a pair of base hits.
 
* Abington scored its lone run in the top half of third after freshman John Busco hit a solo home run marking his ninth of the season.
 
* Harrisburg added two runs in the fourth and another pair of runs in the fifth.
 
Inside the Box Score (Game 1)
 
* Junior Donato Incollingo went 3-for-3 at the plate with a pair of doubles.
 
* Senior Zach Bauers reached base twice with a pair of walks.
 
* Busco went 1-for-3 with a solo home run for his ninth of the season.  His third inning homer tied the program's record for most home runs by a rookie set by Chase Swain in 2022.
 
* For Harrisburg, Waltimyer went 3-for-4 with three runs and five RBI as he hit a pair of homers in the game. Nathan Lapp finished 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI. Coy Schwanger went 4-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.
 
How It Happened (Game 2)
 
* Abington opened the scoring with three runs in the first inning.  Bauers, freshman Jaxon Horvath and senior Benjamin Gagnon each drove in a run in the inning. 
 
* Harrisburg answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to make it a 3-2 game.  Harrisburg tied the game in the third when Schwanger drove in a run with a single through the left side for his second RBI of the game to that point.
 
* Harrisburg grabbed its first lead of the game in the bottom of the fourth with two runs and followed with two more runs in the fifth to take a 7-4 advantage.  Harrisburg added three insurance runs in the sixth to expand the lead to 10-4. 
 
* Incollingo led the fifth off with a solo home run and then homered again in the seventh with a two-run shot to make the score 10-6.  Abington scored again in the eighth with Bauers driving in a run on a fielder's choice to cap the scoring in the game.
 
Inside the Box Score (Game 2)
 
* Incollingo had a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with two home runs and three RBI.  His leadoff home run in the fifth inning turned out to be his 100th career run.  Incollingo's two home runs pushed his career total to 23 as he now ranks fourth all-time among the program's home run leaders.  His three RBI increased his career RBI total to 105 as he now ranks fifth all-time.
 
* Junior Akira Nakamura finished 1-for-3 with two runs and reached base twice on walks.
 
* Bauers drew a pair of walks and recorded two RBI.
 
* For Harrisburg, Schwanger went 5-for-5 with three RBI, while Waltimyer finished 2-for-3 with two RBI.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 28th and 29th matchups between Abington and Harrisburg since the start of the 2011 season.  Abington is now 10-19 versus Harrisburg in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Wednesday, April 15 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Penn State Berks in a United East contest.  Game time is set for 3 p.m.
