Immaculata, Pa.– The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team went the distance against Immaculata University on the road and came away with a 3-2 triumph over the Mighty Macs in a non-conference contest on Thursday night at Alumnae Hall. The Nittany Lions won the fourth set (25-14) to force a fifth a decisive set. Abington cruised to a 15-3 victory to take the match over the Mighty Macs.

How It Happened

* Trailing 2-1 in the match, the Nittany Lions jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the fourth set. Abington never relinquished the lead after trailing, 2-1, earlier in the set. The Mighty Macs went on a 5-0 run to make the score 13-10, but the Nittany Lions answered by scoring five of the next six points, including two kills from freshman Jessie Weeks and a pair of aces by freshman Kamilla Voinalovich. Abington went on to take the set, 25-14, after scoring the final four points of the set. Senior Kayla Mason connected on a kill for set-point.

* The momentum carried on into the fifth set as the Nittany Lions ripped off eight straight points to open the set. Junior Fabiola Medina recorded three straight aces to cap the run. Junior Ellie Van Otten also had a kill after the first four points were scored off Immaculata miscues. After back-to-back points by the Mighty Macs, Abington went on a mini 5-0 run before taking the set, 15-3.

Inside the Box Score

* Three players recorded double-digit kills for the Nittany Lions with senior Zayna Jamaladdin leading the way with a match-high 13 kills. Jamaladdin has registered double-digit kills in each of the four matches to start the season.

* Van Otten set a season-high as she totaled 11 kills to go along with three block assists. Weeks also finished in double-figures as she totaled 10 kills; one shy of her season-high.

* Senior Ryenn Mamrosch recorded a match-high 36 assists to go along with eight digs and three aces. It marked her third straight match with 30-plus assists.

* Medina totaled a team-high 17 digs and led the team with five aces.

* Sophomore Mari Banjoff made nine digs, while recording two aces.

* The Abington defense forced the Mighty Macs into 40 errors on the attack while totaling a combined 55 errors leading to points for the opposition.

* For Immaculata, Madi Kyle recorded a team-high 10 kills to go along with 11 digs, while Tara Hirschtritt filled the box score with eight kills, 17 assists and 12 digs. Adriana Ventura led the match with 30 digs.

All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 11^th meeting between Abington and Immaculata since the start of the 2011 season. The Nittany Lions are now 5-6 versus the Mighty Macs in the all-time series.

Abington returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 12 as the Nittany Lions travel to Drew University for a non-conference tri-match hosted by the Rangers. Abington will face Rutgers University-Newark at 2 p.m. and then take on Drew at 4 p.m.
