Abington Falls to Pioneers at Home

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's soccer team dropped a non-conference contest against visiting William Paterson University by the score of 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Field. Juniors Meghan McGinly and Kaitlyn Frank each scored for the Nittany Lions.

How It Happened
 
* The Pioneers managed to sneak a goal in with less than :30 seconds remaining in the first half breaking up the scoreless tie. Jules Schmidt knocked in her second goal of the season with Kylie Grompine assisting on the play.
 
* In the second half, the Nittany Lions snapped its scoreless streak to start the season with back-to-back scores in a two-minute span.  McGinly connected with the game-tying goal in the 51st minute as freshman Grace Smith was credited with the assist.  Moments later, Frank knocked in the go-ahead goal from a throw-in pass from senior Sara Hogan.  Hogan aired the ball into the box as Frank tapped it in for the score.
 
* In the 70th minute, the Pioneers' Janie Henderson scored the first of her three goals to tie the game at 2-2.  Minutes later, Henderson gave William Paterson the lead again with a score in the 72nd minute before completing a hat-trick with another goal in the 74th minute to give the Pioneers a 4-2 lead.
 
* The Pioneers tacked on another goal in the 76th minute from Christina Jimenez to increase the lead to 5-2.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Frank finished the game with a season-high three shots with two on-target.  Her second half goal marked her 14th career tally.
 
* McGinly recorded her 17th career goal with her second half score.  She totaled two shots in the game.
 
* Senior Kayla Kulp made nine saves in net, including six in the first half. 
 
* For William Paterson, Henderson recorded a game-high six shots on her way to her first career hat-trick.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the third meeting between Abington and William Paterson since the start of the 2024 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 0-3-0 versus the Pioneers in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 16 as the Nittany Lions host Albright College in a non-conference contest.  Game time is set for 1 p.m. at Memorial Field.
