Abington Drops Fall Opener at Elizabethtown

Elizabethtown, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's tennis team dropped its fall opener at Elizabethtown College by the score of 5-2 in a non-conference match on Saturday afternoon at Stauffer Courts.

How It Happened
 
* Abington's first flight doubles duo of sophomores Daniel Trott and Kaan Ofluoglu won their first match as partners with a 6-4 victory over Elizabethtown's Stefanos Billis and Austin Kohler.  With the score tied at 4-4, the Nittany Lions got a break and Trott held serve leading to the final two points of the match.
 
* Elizabethtown picked up the win at second doubles and won third doubles by default and as a result earned the team point in doubles.
 
* In singles play, Ofluoglu defeated Brian Hall in straight sets after cruising to a 6-1 victory in the first set.  The second set turned out to be a lot closer as the two went to a tie-break.  Ofluoglu never trailed Hall in tie-break and earned the final point on the ace to take the set, 7-6.
 
* Freshman Aaron Zheng earned his first collegiate victory with a straight sets victory over Connor Gurekovich at fourth singles.  Zheng won the first set by the score 6-4 after trailing 4-2 earlier in the set.  He went on to take the match with a 6-2 victory in set two.
 
* The Bluejays on first, second and fifth singles while earning the point at sixth singles by default to account for four team points in singles play.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the third meeting between Abington and Elizabethtown since the start of the 2022 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 1-2 versus the Bluejays in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 26 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Eastern University in a non-conference contest.  Match time is set for 12 p.m.
