Abington Falls to Golden Wolves

Reading, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's soccer team dropped a non-conference contest at Alvernia University by the score of 4-0 on Wednesday afternoon at the Alvernia Turf Field.

How It Happened
 
* Alvernia's Regan Schroeder scored two goals in the ninth minute to give the Golden Wolves the upper hand at 2-0.  Schroeder's first goal came off a pass from Sarah Ashley and about thirty seconds later she converted a penalty kick for her second score.
 
* Alvernia increased its lead to 3-0 in the 20th minute when Faith Greenday connected on her second goal of the season.  Kayleigh McKeown was credited with an assist on the play.
 
* The Golden Wolves capped the scoring early in the second half when Emily Walter scored an unassisted goal in the 58th minute.  Walter's second goal of the season gave Alvernia a 4-0 lead.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Junior Meghan McGinly led the team with three shots, while freshmen Riley Roesner and Grace Smith each had two shots in the game.
 
* Freshman goalkeeper Audrey Ormsby made her second start of the season and made four saves in the first half.  Junior Sam Ridler entered in the second half and finished with two saves.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked just the second meeting between Abington and Alvernia.  The Nittany Lions won last year's matchup, 1-0, at Memorial Field.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 26 as the Nittany Lions travel to face St. Mary's College (Md.) in the first United East Conference contest of the season.  Game time is set for 3 p.m.
