Softball Dropped Fourth Straight

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
The Penn State Abington softball team fell to 2-4 on the season with two losses to Arcadia University this afternoon. The Lady Lions dropped the first game 11-1 and could not find the groove in game two with a 13-2 result.

Game 1: Arcadia 11, Abington 1:

Arcadia used a six-run third inning to power past Abington with a total of 10 unanswered runs before Abington posted a run of their own off of  junior Trish Watson's solo home run in the bottom of fourth.

Arcadia then logged in the final run in the fifth for the 11-1 victory.

Tiffany Sipler started on the mound for the Lady Lions but could not get comfortable in the five innings pitched as she gave up 11 runs in 10 hits while walking six batters.

Game 2: Arcadia 13, Abington 2:

Abington's defense was tighter during this game, despite the two runs by the Lady Knights in the second inning, but then Abington's defense began to unravel as the game went on.

Arcaida extended the lead out to six in the fifth inning, scoring four runs as Leanda Helms posted the three-run homer to put the game out of reach.

The Lady Lions managed to post two runs in the bottom of fifth as Sam Kidd, who was just named NEAC Softball Player of the Week, doubled out to right field, rounding Melanie Brown and Christina Rodriguez safely to home.

Arcadia wrapped up the victory with two additional runs in the final inning as the Lady Knights handed Abington its fourth straight loss.

Abington will return to action on Wednesday as it travels north to Schuykill Haven, Pa. to take on fellow commonwealth rival, Penn State Schuykill.
