Box Score 2 The Lady Lions struggled to capitalize on opportunities with runners on base in both ends of their doubleheader, falling to Penn State Harrisburg by identical 9-1 scores in a NEAC Conference play on Sunday afternoon.
Abington starting pitcher
Tiffany Sipler struggled to hold Harrisbug in check as she gave up eight runs in seven hits in the first two innings of the game. The Lady Lions, after watching Harrisburg take a 8-0 lead, answered back in the top of second with a
Rebecca Patenaude RBI single which turned out to be the only run scored in the first game for Abington.
After the sixth inning, Harrisburg notched its ninth run of the game before the umpire called the game because of the eight run rule.
Game two ended with an identical score as game one, as Harrisbug jumped out in front in the top of the first, scoring four runs in just four hits.
Abington answered back in the top of second as
Krysten Boyd scored an unearned run off two throwing errors by Harrisburg to trail 4-1.
Pitcher
Mariellen Medernach, who started on the mound for the Lady Lions, could not contain Harrisburg's batters as they extended the lead to eight in the last four innings for the 9-1 victory and the sweep as the umpire once again, called the game due to the eight run rule.
With the two losses, Abington drops to 7-9 overall, 3-3 in the conference. The Lady Lions will return home to host Penn State Berks in a NEAC Conference doubleheader matchup on Friday, April 6
th with the first pitch slated for 2 p.m.
