Penn State Abington women's lacrosse team picked up its second win of the season after defeating Lancaster Bible College 17-9 this afternoon.
With the win, Abington improves to 2-3 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference and 2-7 overall, while the Lady Chargers remain winless on the season.
Haas led the Lady Lions with nine points, scoring seven goals and two assists, while Hayes collected six points (5 goals, 1 assist).
The Lady Lions showed its strength during the first five minutes of the game, jumping out to a 4-0 lead before Lancaster could muster a goal in the 25
th minute.
Both teams scored two goals apiece before Lancaster managed to find the back of the net twice to trail 6-4 with 17:38 remaining in the first half.
Sophomore
Katelyn Haas scored three of next the six goals during the final minutes of the first half, extending the 11-6 lead for Abington at the half.
The Lady Lions continued its strong attack in the second stanza, scoring four unanswered goals, two of which were netted by
Nicole Hayes, for the 14-6 lead.
Lancaster wouldn't back down, hoping to rally back after notching two more before pair of goals by Hayes and Haas puts the Lady Lions ahead 17-8 and the game out of reach. Lancaster managed to tally its final goal in the last seven minutes of the game.
Playmaker,
Danielle Savoni played an important role in the victory, posting two goals, but most importantly, feeding the Hass/Hayes duo for five assists throughout the game.
Victoria Brady notched her first season hat trick of the season.
Netminder
Shreya Soni made nine saves for her second win of the season. Soni was dominant in the cage, stopping three of Lancaster's free-position shots.
Abington will return to action on Saturday, April 14
th as it travels to Morristown, N.J. to take on the College of St. Elizabeth in a NEAC Conference matchup. The first draw is set for 1 p.m.
