Lady Lions Downed by Gwynedd-Mercy, 21-3

GWYNEDD, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's lacrosse team fell behind 14-1 in the first half en route to losing, 21-3 at Gwynedd-Mercy College on Wednesday afternoon.
 
The Griffins (1-1) stormed out of the gates, scoring four goals in a span of five minutes to take a 4-0 lead by the 24:49 mark. Dani Horn tallied two of Gwynedd-Mercy's first four goals.
 
The Lady Lions (0-2) got on the board at the 22:47 mark on a free-position shot by Nichole Hayes to break the skid. The score remained 4-1 until a Horn goal less than a minute later, triggered triggered another Griffin run. Horn's goal was the first of nine Griffin goals as Gwynedd-Mercy increased its lead to 14-1 at the half.
 
Abington's Cindy La made it a 14-2 game less than four minutes into the opening of the second period when she picked up a rebound off a shot and slipped one by Gwynedd-Mercy's goalkeeper, Erin Janzekovich, to record her first goal of the season.
 
The Griffins scored six unanswered goals to make it a 20-2 game before Avery Winn found the back of the net for her first goal of the season and Abington's third goal of the game.
 
Gwynedd-Mercy's Horn added the game's final goal with just 10 seconds on the clock for the 21-3 final score.   
 
Sarah Snyder-Kamen played all 60 minutes in goal for the Lady Lions and came up with a save and four ground balls on the day.
 
In addition to her one goal, Hayes added five draw controls, as Tori Kimberly posted four. Kaitlin Gossner picked up a team-high two ground balls, while Katelyn Kelly added a pair of caused turnovers for Abington.
 
Horn finished with 11 points on seven goals and four assists for the Griffins, while Jenna Gaydosh added five goals and an assist. Horn also came up with nine draw controls on the day.
 
After wrapping up a two-game road trip, the Lady Lions returns to Abington and opens the home portion of its schedule with a Saturday game against Wilkes University in a 2 p.m. game.
