BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – Despite the12 saves in goal from freshman James Carlin, the Penn State Abington men's lacrosse team could not stave off Bryn Athyn College. The Lions took the win 18-4 at Ebert Field in a midweek game Thursday afternoon.
Bryn Athyn attackman Dana Ayers led the game with four goals and two assists while fellow midfielders Christian Blair and Daniel Triesler each registered a hat-trick.
Two different goal scorers led Abington's afternoon. Junior midfielder
Kieran Ragan and freshman attackman William Suder both registered two goals on 13 shots combined.
After a pair of Bryn Athyn goals, Ragan scored back-to-back goals in a span of 49 seconds to tie up the game. Bryn Athyn retook the lead 20 seconds later, sparking a eight-goal run for the Lions to lead 10-2 at the half.
The hot streak continued for Bryn Athyn in the second half as the Lions went on to score 12 more before Abington managed to break the skid as Suder tallied the final two goals of the game for the 18-4 decision.
It was another grinding day for Ragan, who went 6-9 on the face, leading the Abington field players with eight ground balls while
Arya Kermanshah accounted for four.
Turnovers hurt the Nittany Lions, particularly in the battle for ground balls. Abington came up with 22 ground balls, turning over 29 times, while Bryn Athyn turned it over just 22 times with 57 ground ball victories.
Abington (0-4) managed 17 to get off with shots in the game, with Regan's eight and Suder's five.
The Nittany Lions had several chances on the extra-man, scoring only once during its 11 opportunities (09.1 percent).
The Nittany Lions return to action on Saturday when they head to Hackettstown, N.J. to take on Centenary College. Game time is set for 12 p.m. at Cyclone Field.
