Box Score ROSEMONT, Pa. –The Penn State Abington men's lacrosse team dropped a 19-6 decision to Rosemont College (1-2) in a non-conference matchup Saturday afternoon.
Kieran Ragan scored a career and season-high four goals on 13 shots, recording his second hat-trick of his career. Ragan went on to collect 10 ground balls and forced three turnovers for the Nittany Lions (0-3). Teammates Michael Donnelly and Patrick Peiffer each scored a goal of their own. Netminder James Carlin came up with 11 strong saves for the Nittany Lions, picking up four ground balls in the process.
Abington opened the game with Ragan scoring back–to-back goals to give the Nittany Lions its first lead of the season. Rosemont's Stephen Licata answered back with a pair of goals to tie up the game, before Ragan and Peiffer each tallied a pair of goals for Abington's second lead of the game. With less than two minutes remaining in the first period, the Ravens found the net only to be matched 40 seconds later by Ragan's fourth and final goal of the game to make it 5-3. Licata, once again, found the net for Rosemont with just four seconds remaining to trail 5-4 as the first period came to an end.
Rosemont adjusted its strategy in the second period and it showed as the Ravens scored seven unanswered goals to make it 11-5 at the half. The second stanza was in favor of the Ravens as they opened the half with another seven goal run before Donnelly tallied the sixth goal of the game for Abington in the fourth period. Rosemont then scored its final goal of the game and posted its first win of the season.
Despite the loss, Abington continued to improve throughout the game, playing with just only ten players, limiting the Ravens to just four goals in three periods. However, Rosemont led in just about every statistical category, winning the ground ball battle 52-41 and the face-offs 19 times.
The Nittany Lions will continue its hunt for a first win of the season on Thursday, March 14th, hosting the Lions of Bryn Athyn College for a 4 p.m. contest at RAMP Field. Stay tuned to Abingtonsports.com for all your news and updates.
