FREDERICK, Md. – The Penn State Abington women's lacrosse team took on Hood College on Saturday afternoon at
Thomas Athletic Field and dropped a 16-5 contest to the Blazers. Junior
Tori Kimberly recorded a career-high four goals for the Lady Lions, who fall to 0-5 on the year.
The Blazers (3-3) were paced by senior Caitlin Lawrence, who tallied nine points on four goals and five assists. Junior Megan Feldtmose and sophomore Brigid Ayer each recorded a hat-trick, while fellow newcomer Lauren Couch turned in a 16-save effort.
Hood scored the game's first two goals before Kimberly netted her first goal of the game at the 26:05 mark. Less than seven minutes later and two Blazer goals, Kimberly once again, carried the Abington attack, scoring her second goal of the game to cut the deficit to just two points.
Hood managed to sneak four more goals, twice by Lawrence, past Abington's netminder
Sandy Cao, who came up with four big saves on the day, before Kimberly scored back-to-back goals unassisted. However, it was not enough as the Blazers scored three times and held a 11-4 halftime lead.
The second half showed the same tempo as Hood came out with a five goal surge for the 16-5 victory. Junior
Nichole Hayes scored Abington's fifth and final goal of the game with 24:17 left in regulation.
Hayes and Kimberly each collected a game-high seven ground balls.
The Lady Lions held a 12-11 edge in drawl controls, including a game-best eight from Hayes. Abington outshot Hood, 39-24, and had a slim 26-21 edge in ground balls, but could had trouble converting the six free-position opportunities into goals.
Abington will return to action next Saturday, March 30
th, when they travel to Camden, N.J. to take on the Scarlet Raptors of Rutgers-Camden. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
