Women's Lacrosse Falls to Rutgers-Camden, 23-5

CAMDEN, N.J. – The Penn State Abington women's lacrosse team discharged five goals against the Raptors of Rutgers-Camden. In spite of giving up 15 goals in the first stanza, the Lady Lions battled back, finding the net five times and yielding only eight.

Sophomores Nichole Hayes and Tori Kimberly tallied two goals each. Fellow teammate, Kate Schlack tallied her first goal of the season. Additionally, Kimberly blasted five shots, four on the cage, and led squad with six draw controls, while Rebecca Nutt bullied her way around the defensive side for four caused turnovers.

Freshman netminder Sandy Cao stood tall in the cage once again, facing an onslaught of 41 Rutgers-Camden shots. Cao turned aside seven shots in the first half and four in the second for a career-high culmination of 13 saves total.

Rugters-Camden's Samantha Gregg and Elizabeth LaBar were leading goal scorers, each tabulating five. Nine different Raptors chalked up a goal in the Saturday affair.

Rutgers-Camden opened the scoring at 29:46 of the first half with a pair of goals before Abington got a point on the board by Hayes at the 27:24 mark. The Raptors scored twice more before Kimberly scored back-to-back goals to keep the Lady Lions in contention. Schlack later scored the four goal for Abington before Rutgers-Camden went on a nine-goal run to extend the lead to 14-4, putting the game out of reach. Hayes would later score the fifth and final goal for the Lady Lions at the 1:14 mark in the first half before the Raptors added nine more points throughout the remainder of the game for the 23-5 win.

Rutgers-Camden went 3-for-5 compared to Abington's 1-for-3 free-position endeavors. The Raptors outdueled Abington 11-7 on groundballs and had a slight 15-14 edge in turnovers as well.

Abington (0-6) takes a breather on the weekend before heading out to Delaware to take on the Wesley Wolverines on Wednesday, April 3 at 7 p.m. before commencing conference play versus Cazenovia College at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 6.
