Box Score ABINGTON, Pa. – In a NEAC conference match-up between the Penn State Abington women's lacrosse team and Morrisville State, a 15-3 run over a span of nearly 29 minutes propelled the Mustangs to a 23-7 win over the Nittany Lions on Sunday afternoon at Germantown Academy's Sisters Field.
Abington (0-7, 0-2 NEAC) was led by sophomore
Nichole Hayes who scored three goals and extended her consecutive point streak to 23 games, setting an all-time program record dating back to 2010. Morrisville (3-5, 2-0 NEAC) was led by Shelby Wood's seven goals. Jessica Young contributed five goals.
Morrisville State opened the scoring at 28:04 by Meghan Soto before Hayes tied up the game a minute later. The Mustangs responded by scoring eight of the next eight goals to take a 9-1 lead with 17:18 remaining in the first half. The Nittany Lions responded with goals from
Katelyn Kelly and Hayes to trail by six with 17:18 remaining. Morrisville would score six more times to extend the lead to 15-3 at the end of the half.
The Nittany Lions opened the second half with a goal by
Tori Kimberly, her fifth consecutive goal streak. However, the Mustangs' attack continued in the second half with back-to-back goals before
Kate Schalck tallied the fifth goal of the game for the Nittany Lions. After six more goals from Morrisville, Abington scored two consecutive goals, including a fourth from Hayes, to close out the contest.
For the game, Morrisville shot Abington 37-13. The Nittany Lions amassed 21 turnovers, while the Mustangs committed 13.
Abington will return to conference play on Saturday, April 13 in a road trip to New York against Wells College. Opening draw is set for 3 p.m.
