Overall ResultsWashington, D.C.- The Penn State Abington cross country teams competed at the NEAC championships Saturday, with both teams having strong performances.
The men's team finished 3rd out of 11 teams with 86 points. Junior
Alexander Kane led the Nittany Lions and finished 1st overall, out of 83 runners with a time of 27:18.8. Kane is now a two-time conference champion, and was named NEAC runner of the year Saturday.
Senior
Nicholas Volpe crossed the line in 12
th place with a time of 28:43.1. Freshman Nelson Costa followed suit with a time of 28:43.1 for a 13th place finish, while
Billy Donovan crossed the line with a 29:57:3 good for 24
th place.
Other Abington finishers include
Faheem Shah finishing 39th with a 31:22.6.
Christopher Pearce who finished 47
th with a 32:19.1., and
Jeremy Castro who finished 49th with a 33:17.3 to round out the runners for the Blue and White.
The women finished 3rd out of 11 teams with 81 points. They were led by sophomore
Valerie Santangelo with a 5
th place finish for a personal best time of 23:31.4. Valerie broke her old school with her performance today. Junior
Gina Montgomery crossed the line with a personal best 24:19.1 for the 11
th overall spot, while
Haley Burns finished right behind her in 12
th place with a personal best 24:20.6.
Other finishers include Jenine Santos in 26th with a personal best 25:46.5.
Kelly Hammond placed 27
th with a personal best 25:47.3, and
Jacquelyn Burkhimer placed 56
th with a personal best 28:56.4.
Alex Kane,
Nicholas Volpe, and
Gina Montgomery have all earned conference honors for the third time, which is a first in school history.
Penn State Abington will travel to Newville, Pa. in two weeks to participate in the NCAA Mid-East Championships, hosted by Dickinson College on Saturday, November 15th. The women will start at 10:00 a.m. followed by the men's race at 11:00 a.m.
