Down two entering the second half, the Nittany Lions made their move to rally but struggled to maintain possession of the ball as Gwynedd Mercy scored twice in the opening minutes until Sawick scored at the 23:10 mark to keep the margin close. The Griffins scored two more goals before Winn scored her third goal of the game at the 13:25 mark and tallied her fourth less than three minutes later. Haas then scored 44 seconds later on the draw to make it a 13-10 affair with the Blue and White trailing by three with over 10 minutes to play.
The Griffins managed to find the back of the net twice, within four minutes from each other before Haas tallied her hat-trick at the 1:45 mark but time expired before the Nittany Lions could muster a late rally.
Sawick got the Nittany Lions started in the first half, scoring five minutes into the match. The Griffins responded with a pair of goals before Haas evened up the game with 16:34 remaining in the half. Both teams traded a pair of goals before the hosts added a pair of back-to-back goals for the 8-5 lead as Winn scored with 1:40 remaining in the half to cut the deficit to four before the break.
Katelyn Kelly and
Chasidy McLaurin each scored a goal while Sawick find the back of the net twice.
Sandy Cao filled in goal for the Nittany Lions and came up with 19 saves in the 34 shots faced.
Abington (0-6) will return home on Saturday, March 29 as the Blue and White hosts the Wolverines of Wesley College for a 1 p.m. match.
