Wesley Downs Women's Lacrosse, 16-4

Box Score HORSHAM, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's lacrosse team dropped a 16-4 decision to Wesley College this afternoon at the Hatters Stadium.

Junior midfielder Avery Winn scored a pair of goals as fellow classmates, Katelyn Haas and Breanne Kradzinski each tallied a goal in the loss. Sophomore defender Rebecca Nutt had a strong showing on defense, forcing three caused turnovers on the day as senior defender Alyssa Kaye and sophomore netminder Sandy Cao collected with five ground balls. Cao played all 60 minutes in the cage for the Nittany Lions and was credited with seven saves on the 23 shots faced.

The Wolverines (4-3) wasted no time as Jordan Lutz scored the first goal of the game on a pass from Rylee Gould in just 37 seconds to put Wesley up on the board. Abington (0-7) quickly rebounded as Winn slipped past two Wolverine defenders before finding the back of the net to tie up the contest at the 28:12 mark.

Junior Kaylee Miller scored back-to-back goals in a span of two minutes for the Wolverines as Wesley ended up scoring four unanswered goals before Haas and Kradzinski scored back-to-back for the Nittany Lions to make it a two point game with 6:04 to play in the first half. Wesley added three additional goals for the 8-3 lead before the horn sounded the end of the half.

During the second half, Abington struggled to maintain possession of the ball as Wesley opened the stanza scoring seven unanswered goals to put the game out of reach, 15-3 with just 15 minutes remaining on the board.

Winn tallied the final Abington goal on a free position shot at the 7:41 mark before Wesley recorded its 16th goal of the game from senior Alexandra Barbieri for the win.

Senior midfielder Jordan Lutz led Wesley with six points on five goals and an assist, while three players posted two goals each. Junior goalkeeper Katherine Cooke started in goal for the Wolverines, posting 12 saves in the 16 shots faced.

Wesley led just about every statistical category in the game, out hustling on ground balls, 41-25, out shooting, 31-23. Abington had eight free position opportunities, in which only one was converted into a goal however, the Nittany Lions also stayed closed on Wesley's heels with turnovers, forcing nine Wolverine turnovers throughout the contest.

Abington will take a few days off and regroup as the Nittany Lions look for their first win of the season on Wednesday, April 2 as they open conference play against Wilson College at Hatters Stadium.
