Katelyn Haas with five goals and an assist. Junior
Katelyn Kelly had three goals, while classmates
Breanne Kradzinski and
Avery Winn posted a pair of goals each as junior
Chasidy McLaurin contributed a goal for Abington.
Sandy Cao played all 60 minutes in the pipes for the Blue and White, coming up with 16 saves.
Cazenovia opened the game with six unanswered goals to take an early 6-0 lead with 24:42 left in the first half. Abington responded with two goals of their own by Winn and Haas to cut the deficit to four. The Wildcats would score twice before Abington scored three straight on a pair of goals from Kelly as Haas scored in between for the 8-5 score.
Cazenovia continued to find the back of the net twice before Haas tallied the hat-trick with 1:05 remaining on the board. The Wildcats would end the half, scoring once more with five seconds on the board for the 11-6 lead before both teams headed into the locker rooms at the break.
Cazenovia continued its barrage of goals in the second goal, scoring twice in the opening minutes as Haas netted her fourth goal of the day only to be matched by the Wildcats. The Nittany Lions continued to battle their way back as McLaurin and Haas managed to find the net 40 seconds apart as Abington trailed 15-9 with 21:04 remaining in the game.
Both teams traded a goal before the Wildcats broke free, scoring five straight to start the running clock on a 20-10 lead before Kelly converted a shot into a goal for Abington at the 10:29 mark. Cazenovia would just respond with another rally of a five-goal spree before Winn and Kradzinski scored the final two goals but it wouldn't be enough to overcome the deficit as the Nittany Lions suffered the 25-13 loss.
The Nittany Lions return to action on Sunday, April 13 as they travel to Morrisville, N.Y. to face the Mustangs of Morrisville State College. The game is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
