The men's squad finished third out of five teams for 80 points with junior
Alexander Kane (Doylestown, Pa.) leading the pack, passing by 12 runners from Dickinson College for an 8
th place finish on the 6-kilometer course, dodging turns and loops on a briskly 65 degree night to break the school record in 19:29.
Senior
Nicholas Volpe (Southampton, Pa.) completed the course in 21 minutes flat, a personal record, for a 24
th place finish while freshman
Nelson Costa Jr. (Philadelphia, Pa.) finished right on Volpe's heels in 25
th four seconds later to put himself in the third spot of the school's Top-10 performances in his first intercollegiate race of his career.
Newcomer
Billy Donovan (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) completed his first intercollegiate race with a strong 35
th place finish in 22:07 to place his name in 4
th on the school's Top-10 rankings, while classmate
Jeremy Castro (Clifton, N.J.) completed the course in 23:38 for a 47
th place spot and earned the 8
th place standings in the school's 6K record book.
Jhon Pierre (Lancaster, Pa.) finished in 51
st place (24:49) followed by
Christopher Pearce (Bensalem, Pa.) in 52
nd (25:08) as
Faheem Shah (Philadelphia, Pa.) wrapped up the lineup for the Nittany Lions with a 54
th place finish in 25:53.
Dickinson College won the men's event with just 15 points.
On the women's side, four runners competed in the race as individuals for Abington and all four runners ran the fastest 4-kilometer times in school history. Sophomore
Valerie Santangelo (Abington, Pa.) sped by the nationally ranked Dickinson runners to post a 22
nd place finish in 15:16 on the 4-kilometer course, breaking her own record from last year.
Newcomer
Haley Burns (Philadelphia, Pa.) completed her first intercollegiate race in just 16:39 for a 32
nd place finish as teammate
Gina Montgomery (Philadelphia, Pa.) crossed the line eight seconds later for a 34
th place finish and a personal best time.
Kelly Hammond (Philadelphia, Pa.) wrapped up the lineup for the Blue and White as she completed the chilly night in 17:05 for the 42
nd spot. All of the times that were logged in were ranked in the Top-4 times in Abington's history in a 4K event.
Division I UConn won the women's team event with six runners finishing in the top-10 for a combined 19 points.
The Nittany Lions will be in action on Saturday, September 6th when they host the 2014 Penn State Abington Invitational at Lorimer Park with the men's race at 8:30 a.m. followed by the women's race at 9:30 a.m.
